Social Programming Fund
Having trouble finding money for your on-campus event? The Office of Student Activities offers funding that may supplement your event expenses. The Social Programming Fund (SPF) allows recognized student organizations the opportunity to produce programs on-campus that are also open to the Mason community.

Deadlines for applications & SPF Forms
All Student Organization Social Programming Fund requests must be submitted by 5:00 pm on the event deadline PRIOR to the event. The deadlines for Fall 2009 are:
September 4th
September 18th
October 2nd
October 16th
October 30th
November 13th
December 4th (for all programs taking place between Jan 19th until Feb 26th, 2010)
Awards for approved programs will be announced no later than 10 business days after each Committee review session. Please apply a minimum of three weeks prior to your event.
Social Programming Fund Forms (All Adobe Acrobat '.pdf' files, which you can type right into the form):

Remember:
You won't be able to save the forms after you complete them. Therefore, make sure you print the forms (including a copy for you) before you close the window. Also, if you need more space for explanations and/or support, feel free to attach an additional page.
Please Note:
A complete SPF Packet includes the Cover Sheet, Form SP-1 and Form SP-2
(and the Co-Sponsorship Form, if applicable).
All forms must be TYPED or your packet will not be reviewed.

2008-09 SPF Deadlines
The 2008-2009 deadlines are set for student organizations to apply for the funds. If your recognized student organization wants to apply for SPF funding, please read the guidelines below and note the deadlines. If you have questions please email spf@gmu.edu
Information Sessions
The SPF Review Committee will hold Information Sessions to inform student organizations about the Social Programming Fund and the application process. Dates TBA.
Guidelines for Funding
All applications submitted for funding through the Social Programming Fund must follow the following guidelines for funding:
Definition of a Student Organization Social Event
- An event which socialization is the primary purpose and activity. Individuals that are actively involved and participating in such functions constitute a dance/social event. That includes, but is not limited to all types of dances, concerts, shows, parties, social gatherings,etc.
- A non-social event is defined as having a non-participating audience. Examples of a non-social event would include lectures and speakers, talent shows, and fine arts performances.
GENERAL Rules/Guidelines for Funding of ALL requesting organizations:
- Individuals cannot apply for funds
- Event must be OPEN to entire GMU community
- Event must be alcohol free
- Event must be on the GMU campus
- Event must not be revenue generating (i.e. no admission charge)
- Events must occur before finals week of the Spring semester
Guidelines for an INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATION applying for funding (in addition to the general guidelines) :
- All participating organizations must be recognized by the Office of Student Activities at George Mason University
- Organizations can receive up to $2,000 per organization/per year.
- Attach a copy of contracts/invoices for food services, honorarium, events management, events production, etc.
Guidelines for CO-SPONSORSHIP of organizations applying for funding (in addition to the general guidelines) :
- All participating organizations must be recognized by the Office of Student Activities at George Mason University
- Co-Sponsored events can receive up to $6,000 (a max of $2,000 per org for each event/ per year)
- Co-sponsorship is limited to a maximum of 3 recognized student organizations
- Attach a copy of contracts/invoices for food services, honorarium, events management, events production, etc.
Guidelines for SG, PB, & ISU applying for funding (in addition to the general guidelines) :
- Groups who receive programming funds (i.e. SG, PB, ISU) are eligible to receive up to $2,500 (during the course of the current semester)
- Attach a copy of contracts for food services, honorarium, events management, events production, etc.
Advertising Requirement for SPF funded events
All SPF funded programs must have the following statement clearly printed on all publications (fliers, announcements, etc.):
"Sponsored by the Student Organization Social Programming Fund"
Additionally, all fliers for SPF events must be PRE-approved by the Assistant Director of Student Activities - Organizations prior to posting.
Note on showing Movies on campus
All movies have been copyrighted by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and are not approved for public viewing by unlicensed persons or groups. All the movies that have been advertised and shown in the JC and on EFF nights have been licensed and essentially "purchased" by the University for Public showing.
Per the MPAA's Anti-piracy statements:
Unauthorized public performances include situations where an institution or commercial establishment shows a tape or film to its members or customers without receiving permission from the copyright owner. This includes "public performances" where an admission fee is charged as well as those that are simply offered as an additional service of the establishment .

Awards will only be allotted for the following items; do not apply for items not listed below:
- Police/Security
- Events Production
- Contractors (i.e. Performer, DJ, etc.)
- Rental Equipment
- Catering
- Advertising
