Student Governance
From the Desk of the Assistant Director of Student Governance
Greetings!
As a former student leader and a current university administrator, I understand and appreciate the importance of student involvement and voice. Students play an instrumental role in the overall structure and function of the University and have a major influence in decisions that affect its culture. Being an active member of the Student Government or the Graduate Student Assembly empowers students to effect change and to make a positive difference on campus.
If you are a student who is interested in being a positive representation of the Mason spirit then I strongly encourage you to get involved with either the Student Government or the Graduate Student Assembly. These two student organizations are designed to provide an open and welcoming environment for students to have their voices heard. Furthermore, they are responsible for providing quality leadership opportunities that transcend the college experience and are applicable in one's future career path. Having said that, one of the most desirable traits that employers look for in prospective employees is leadership experience and the ability to be an affective member of a team. Being an involved with Student Government or the Graduate Student Assembly is a great opportunity for you to better your university, as well as hone your leadership skills which will make you a well-rounded individual.
I challenge you to become an active member in your university community and let your voice be heard. If you are up for that challenge please do not hesitate to contact me and I can discuss with you how to get involved and put you in contact with current student leaders who can help you become involved in their organization. The benefits of getting involved and making a difference during your time at Mason will last you a lifetime.
Yours in Leadership,
Jude C. Butch
